XION has developed a novel adaptive endoscopic imaging system, whereby just a single device comprehensively provides the features required for performing all endoscopic examinations and interventions, thus overcoming the inadequacies of conventional techniques and creating completely new opportunities on the basis of latest, cutting-edge technologies.
Spectar, an adaptive camera platform that is open to current and future technologies, and sustainably accommodates the trend towards increasingly shorter innovation cycles, thus saving on resources.
It configures itself automatically to the wide range of HD, 4K, 2D, 3D camera heads and video endoscopes. Without the need for any additional settings, the user immediately receives a video image of the highest quality.
For its development of “Spectar”, the adaptive imaging system for endoscopy, XION won the acclaimed Berlin/Brandenburg 2016 Innovation Award.
The Spectar is a multi-functional camera platform that has been designed for long-term flexible use in a wide range of endoscopic applications, and prepared for working with advanced technologies. Apart from multidisciplinary use, this flexibility leads to long term economic benefit.
Spectar endoscopy in 4K – for brilliant, accurately detailed imaging
Spectar 3D endoscopy – for safe and easy working (instrumentation), for developing new areas of application and treatment options
Spectar PIET – for advanced visualization in 2D and 3D
There is an increasing need and expectation for clearer and sharper visualization in the field of endoscopy and minimal invasion.
Crucial factors for this are
Due to the 4x greater resolution obtained compared with conventional Full-HD systems, it is possible to detect very fine vessel and tissue structures much more easily – even in a magnified, zoomed display
The 4K format provides a considerably greater number of colour tones (total 10 million). It is much easier to detect finest tissue structures, leading to more precision and safety for the operator.
Using 3D endoscopy appears to be most appropriate for applications in areas with very fine structures and small spaces - there, where users are accustomed to three-dimensional working, such as in microscopy. The combined use of 3D endoscopy and microscopy serves to optimize interventions, expand diagnostic possibilities and develop new areas of application.
The challenge, particularly in the case of very thin 3D endoscopes, is to guarantee a precisely adjusted stereo image throughout the entire course of the examination and/or the surgical intervention. An extremely complex process performs the following automatic, real-time corrections:
PIET (professional image enhancement technology) extends the system by adding three situational possibilities for visualization. These are available for all resolutions (HD, 4K) as well as 2D and 3D-endoscopy.
PIET lumino
Both the bright as well as the dark areas of the image are represented in an equally clear manner and uniformly illuminated
PIET (professional image enhancement technology) extends the system by adding three situational possibilities for visualization. These are available for all resolutions (HD, 4K) as well as 2D and 3D-endoscopy.
PIET chromo
Details are highlighted and colour contrast is intensified

PIET spectro
By shifting the colour spectrum, tissue and vessel structures are displayed in a more differentiated manner
The days are finally over, where a special endoscopy trolley had to be used for each and every individual area of application. The universal EndoSURGERY system now makes it possible to optimally perform all endoscopic applications in a wide range of disciplines, using the same system.
